Lower back pain is almost a rite of passage for engineers.
Many of my colleagues complain of heavy, tight backs after long hours at their desks.
I used to as well—that’s why yoga became part of my life. I know exactly how it feels, and how common it is in our field.
Here are three quick stretches you can do right at your desk:
Seated forward bend – Sit with your feet flat, slowly hinge forward, and let your arms and head drop.
Seated spinal twist – Sit upright, place one hand on the backrest, gently twist your torso. Switch sides.
Hip opener (figure-four) – Place your ankle on the opposite knee, lean forward slightly, and feel the stretch in your glutes and lower back. Switch sides.
Each takes less than five minutes. Your code will still be there when you’re done.
